Vitamin E may help fight Alzheimer's disease

In 1997, studies showed vitamin E may help slow mental deterioration in people with moderate Alzheimer's disease. More recently, doctors reported a large study that showed that vitamins E and C, taken in high-dose supplemental form, appear to help protect brain cells from damage that could lead to Alzheimer's disease. The study suggested the antioxidant properties of the two vitamins offset the buildup of unstable forms of molecules called free radicals. The buildup of free radicals may play a role in Alzheimer's disease. Doctors caution that more research must be carried out to firmly establish a link between the vitamins and protection against Alzheimer's disease.
