HIV treatments are given in combination to attack the virus from many fronts


Currently there are about 35 combinations of HIV medications recommended by government health officials. Doctors often turn to guidelines published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) for guidance on how to combine 15 or so approved anti-HIV medications. These combinations are referred to as highly active antiretroviral therapy, or HAART.
